2. General information on data processing

This website is deliberately built to collect as little data as possible: no tracking or analytics services are used, no cookies are set, and no fonts or scripts are loaded from third-party servers. We only process personal data if you actively provide it to us via the contact form or by email/phone.

3. Hosting

This website is hosted by Netlify, Inc., 512 2nd Street, Suite 200, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit the site, the hosting provider processes technically necessary data (IP address, date and time of access, page requested, browser type) in server log files. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing the website securely and reliably (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). As this is a US provider, the transfer to the USA is based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses; a data processing agreement is in place with the provider (Art. 28 GDPR).

4. Contact form

You can use the form to request a free trial class or ask us a question. We process the data you provide (name, email address, phone number if given, preferred training, message) as well as the language version of the page, so that we can reply in your language.

Purpose and legal basis: We use your details to process your request and arrange a trial class with you. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (steps prior to a membership), and for general questions Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in answering enquiries).

News (optional): If you also tick the box for news and offers, we will inform you by email (and phone, if provided) about news and offers from Philosopher BJJ & MMA. The legal basis is then your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, and for email marketing additionally § 7(2) No. 2 UWG). We will process your request without this box ticked as well.

Withdrawal: You can withdraw your consent at any time for the future, without giving reasons, by simply emailing service@philosopherbjj.com. We will then stop sending you information. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

Storage period: Enquiries without consent are deleted once they have been fully dealt with, unless statutory retention obligations apply. With consent, we store your data until you withdraw it. Entries from our mailing list before the opening are stored until you withdraw consent, but no longer than 17 April 2027 (six months after the opening). After that we delete them, unless a membership has been established or statutory retention obligations apply.

Your data is not passed on to third parties for marketing purposes.

To process the form we use the "Netlify Forms" feature of our hosting provider Netlify (see section 3). This means no additional service provider is involved: the enquiry is received by the same provider that delivers the website anyway. The form contents are stored there and also sent to us by email. A data processing agreement is in place with Netlify (Art. 28 GDPR); the transfer to the USA is covered by the provider's certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, supplemented by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

5. External links

Our website links to our profiles on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, to our WhatsApp channel, to Google Maps (directions), to our partners' websites and to the MAAT app, through which membership and class bookings are handled, as well as to its listings on the App Store and Google Play. The QR code on our "Membership" page is an image on our own server and contains only the link to MAAT. When you click these links you leave our website, and the privacy policy of the respective provider applies. Simply visiting our website does not transfer any data to these providers. We do not embed maps or social media content directly; these are links only. All logos are hosted on our own server.

6. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing (Art. 21 GDPR). Simply contact us at the email address above. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. For Baden-Württemberg this is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information Baden-Württemberg (Landesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit).
